ASET announces Damon Mayes as new CEO

The Council of the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) is pleased to announce the appointment of Damon Mayes, MSc., BSc., C.Stat (FRSS), P.Stat, as the new Chief Executive Officer effective 6 January 2025.

Damon steps into his position as ASET’s CEO with close to 30 years’ experience as a senior leader in the healthcare, post-secondary and private industry sectors. He started his career at the University of Alberta where he was educated and trained as a biostatistician and medical researcher. Damon has an advanced B.Sc. degree in Mathematics, a M.Sc. in Statistics, is doctoral trained in biostatistics and has earned two professional chartered designations in Canada and the United Kingdom. He applied this specialized knowledge to his work as a graduate studies lecturer and researcher in the areas of clinical epidemiology, obstetrics, pediatrics and emergency medicine. His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, and he has collaborated extensively with internationally recognized teams of scientists, engineers, physicians and technologists to solve problems of global significance in the healthcare sector.

Over the past two decades his career has evolved into senior executive positions. These include roles as Vice President, Chief Information Officer and most recently as Chief Operating Officer for the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Damon’s blend of research and technological background, coupled with extensive regulatory and executive experience, position him well to lead ASET into a new and exciting future of strong support for members and working in the best interests of the public this association serves.

As the professional self-regulatory organization for engineering technologists and technicians in the province, ASET continues its mission of being the premier regulator, service provider and promoter of safe, high quality professional technology practice. We represent approximately 17,000 members, including full-time technology students, recent graduates and fully certified members in 21 disciplines and more than 120 occupations across a multitude of industries.
