Susan Chesa, C.E.T., PMP, MTM
As first vice-president, Susan Chesa will continue to build on the strategies she implemented as second vice-president. These include raising ASET’s profile where its visibility is low, working with stakeholders to expand on member professional development offerings, and building up and promoting the mentorship program even further.
Additionally, Susan will advocate for creating programs and services that will help ASET members adapt to an evolving technological and economic landscape.
Susan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2010. She next took up a role as a solar sales engineer at Davis & Shirtliff Group, a leader in water and energy solutions in East Africa, where she helped clients and businesses transition to renewable energy systems.
In 2012 she moved to Canada and took up a role as a technical support specialist at Shaw Communications. In 2013, she joined Rotaflow Controls, an engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance company based out of Edmonton. At Rotaflow, Susan worked on multiple projects supporting the oil and gas industry, with a specific focus on industrial utilities. During her time at Rotaflow she became a member of ASET and obtained her C.E.T. designation.
Following her time in engineering consulting, Susan took up an opportunity in the non-profit sector as a career coach at Bredin Centre for Career Advancement. At Bredin, she supported internationally trained professionals in the technology fields (including engineering, geoscience and architecture) in their efforts to integrate into the Canadian workspace, get their credentials evaluated, and apply for certifications and licensure.
Her passion for helping others develop their careers and find employment opportunities led her to take up a role as a recruitment consultant – engineering/technical at Agilus Work Solutions (formerly known as Design Group Staffing) in August 2021. There she recruits junior to senior engineering and technical talent for companies in the oil and gas, manufacturing, construction, and utility industries. Currently, Susan works at Bunge as a talent acquisition specialist, a global food processing company which supports operations in Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba with full cycle recruitment.
In 2019, Susan graduated with a master’s degree in technology management from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She also holds a certificate in project management from NAIT and is a member of the Project Management Institute where she obtained her project management professional designation in 2016.
Susan believes in work-life balance and enjoys travelling, summer camping and winter outdoor activities with her husband and three kids.
