ASET Certification Exam (Technical)

The  ASET Certification Examination is designed to test the entry-level skill and knowledge of engineering and applied science technologists who have:

  1. Graduated from a technologist-level program/degree that is not accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada and are applying for C.E.T.; or
  2. Completed a technician-level program of study in engineering or applied science technology and are seeking reclassification from C.Tech. to C.E.T.; or
  3. Completed ASET's Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition process and are seeking reclassification from C.Tech. to C.E.T. and have at least two years of technical work experience in their field of practice.

COVID-19 cancellation policy        

If a candidate falls ill on the day of the exam and has flu/cold symptoms, please contact exams@aset.ab.ca immediately. If writing at a testing centre, candidates with those symptoms will be denied entry and will be unable to write the exam.   

Once ASET has been contacted and informed of a candidate's sickness, the exam will be cancelled. To waive the examination fee to reschedule again, proof of a positive COVID-19 test will be required.

Rewrite/Reschedule Policy

Please be advised that if you wish to reschedule your exam date at any time after the registration deadline, you will be charged the full exam fee. Please email exams@aset.ab.ca to reschedule your exam. 

If you are required to rewrite the exam, you will be charged the full exam fee. Refer to the fee chart above to see the full exam fee.   
Applicants may attempt the exam a maximum of three times within one year from the date of application.

 

IMPORTANT EXAM INFORMATION:

Applicants must reconfirm their seat through a series of instructions provided in a booking confirmation email sent from Meazure Learning three to four weeks prior to your chosen exam date. This email may go into your junk mail folder/spam filter. Should you not locate the email, please contact Meazure Learning directly at testingsupport@meazurelearning.com and request that an exam grant email be resent to you. ASET does not have access to this information. Without reconfirming your exam booking, you will be unable to write the exam on your chosen date.


Special Accommodation Requests

  1. Applicants with disabilities may request special accommodation(s) to write the ASET PPE, Certification Exam or the NPPE. Applicants must request special accommodation(s) at the time of application and at least seven weeks prior to the exam registration deadline date.

    Applicants will be required to provide documented evidence of the disability. Such evidence includes a formal detailed diagnosis of the specific disability from an appropriate professional (e.g. physician, psychologist, rehabilitation counsellor) and supporting documentation citing the need for exam accomodations and what accomodations the candidate received in the past.

    ASET will review the candidate's written request for accommodation(s) to determine if the request can be supported.
     
     
  2. Internationally trained applicants who may need more than the allotted time when writing the PPE and/or ASET Certification Exam, may request additional time for writing the exam by completing and submitting this form to ASET. Applicants must request special accommodation(s) at the time of application and at least seven weeks prior to the exam registration deadline date.

    Applicants must submit the results of the English language competency proficiency to ASET before this special accommodation request will be granted.

    ASET will review the applicant’s written request for accommodation(s) to determine if the request can be supported.

Technology Report Resources

Applicants who fail the discipline-specific certification exam after one attempt may apply to the ASET Registrar for special consideration to write a technical report in lieu of the exam. Applicants seeking special consideration must provide a technical report proposal in accordance with ASET’s Technical Report Guidelines. A subject matter expert will review the report proposal and provide a written recommendation to the Registrar regarding acceptance of the report proposal. Prior approval of the technical report topic by a subject matter expert must be obtained for candidates to begin writing their report.

In addition, and at its discretion, the Board of Examiners may assign a technical report to C.E.T. applicants who are graduates of a program currently in the accreditation process with Technology Accreditation Canada.
